The journey of life and love is perilous.
I was at a friend’s wedding on the weekend and while watching them at the altar having fun making their vows a deep philosophical thought occurred to me. While I looked on as a witness to the ceremony it occurred to me that “the journey of life and love is perilous”. I wasn’t trying to be intellectual about anything and was just attending with family to see a couple who had both previously been married, tie the knot again. I had some insight into the intense drama and demise of both their previous relationships and was just reflecting on the risks people take to find love, and then “BAMM” this thought comes into my head.
As I have reflected on the thought that “the journey of life and love is perilous” it has occurred to me that relationships are a risky entrepreneurial venture. People courageously get into relationships that can lead to marriages that have no real guarantee of success. There are many risks in being in a relationship but people just keep searching for the right person and keep taking the risks associated with such a venture.
The word entrepreneur normally relates to independent business ownership where individuals embark on business ventures in the hope of great profits yet have a level of risk of failure. Like business, a marriage can be an exciting possibility while at the same time doesn’t come with a guarantee of success. But the hope of success is a powerful motivator.
Marriage like business is the process of making something from nothing. The process of starting with nothing and the possibility of creating something from nothing is exciting and motivating and is entrepreneurial. When you think about it lots of things require us to be entrepreneurial. You may be able to think of others but for example some years ago I realised the entrepreneurial nature of surfing. Board riders just paddle out into the wide blue ocean and create something from nothing. The wind, the tide and the ocean swell present the opportunities but it is the surfer that creates the possibilities of catching waves.
QUESTION: What could you do to start being entrepreneurial in your relationships? What if you could create from nothing the exact type of relationship you want by using your creative genius? Relationships occur as people take risks on love. What could you do today to create more love in your relationship? For example what could you do today that would relax or nurture your relationship with the love of your life. Like the business person and the surfer, no one will tell you how to love, and no one will tell you how much to love, so just develop a big appetite for love and invest it in each other. And enjoy the mutual benefits of the journey of life and love as an entrepreneur of your love.
