I have enjoyed a very interesting career starting in the helping- professions as a volunteer telephone counsellor with a community organisation in 1985. I have since spent decades helping crushed and broken people through the most desperate times of their lives. My work life as a counsellor and psychologist has given me unique opportunities to get to know and work with some remarkable people.
I have worked with people in extreme conditions and situations, both young people as a youth worker and with adults as a counsellor and psychologist. Repetitively observing extreme suffering and depravation over many years provided me with a unique insight and understanding of human suffering which eventually alerted me to the key underlying life skills required to overcome struggles of life. Wonderfully, as a result of my extreme experiences I have now developed ways to help people that are reliably transformative, if people are ready to be helped. For example, when moving between youth and adult client populations I found that the same therapeutic approach that kept youth alive could also be used to teach adult to thrive.
In addition, some of the genius of my therapeutic approach is linked to the fact I have not always been a psychologist. Growing up in rural Australia and spending the first 14 years of my working life in engineering and steel manufacturing gives me a very practical and results oriented approach in my therapeutic work. For example, engineering can involve repairing old battered and worn machinery or creating new innovative equipment to solve the latest problems. As a therapist I have seen more than my share of battered and worn people in need of repair and innovation.
In the journey of my personal and spiritual development in 2002 as a trained counsellor I decided to study and train to become a psychologist. With my psychologist qualification I initially worked in education management in applied psychology and later decided to return to the coal face and frontier of human need opening a private psychology clinic on the Queensland Gold Coast in 2007.
From our garden clinic we offer a safe place where people can come and meet with a trusted professional, who can assist them to endure and overcome the trials of life. We specialize in trauma reduction therapy.
I haven’t pursued this work or achieved these things on my own. I enjoy married life with my wife Vicki and our 3 adult children. Vicki and I have been sensitive to peoples suffering and have focused on creating healing therapies together for over 35 years. The work we have performed together, at the same time raising our family, has been particularly challenging requiring us to be stretched and grow emotionally and spiritually. Much of the remarkably success of our clinical work is because of the additional spiritual dimension woven into the fabric of who we are today.
While I am grateful that our clinic is busy, attracting people from across the region, I remain concerned for those who will probably never step through a therapists door. Even though people are suffering with extreme anxiety, depression and stress it still takes a lot of courage to ask for help and many people simply can’t or won’t access help to be "saved from the pain of YOUR own mind".
So this website has been created to help you overcome your personal barriers and inhibitions in the privacy of your own home or office.
All the best as you look for answers to your life pain. If you have questions please email us using the contacts page.
